New year, New... Diabetes?

Large gold new years fireworks light up dark sky.
New Year Fireworks

As we usher in the new year we often find ourselves in reflection.

How was this last year?

Did I meet my goals?

How is my health, really?

Speaking for myself. 2023 was very difficult. The year started off great. My endocrinologist ordered my new insulin pump. We started traveling move. Then, the rug was ripped out from underneath me.

In April 2023, l had a major health scare. Piecing together the puzzle. I had a hypoglycemic event while I was asleep. My blood sugar was low for six hours and I did not wake up for any alarm. at some point l found myself in our bathroom. it was at this point I ended u falling into the side of our bathtub and broke my jaw in half. One ambulance ride, one surgery, and four hospital days later I was bandaged up enough to go back home. Words cannot adequately describe how much this event changed the way I look at my own health and body.

I thought I spent a significant amount of time and energy toward my health before April 2023. It has quadrupled since then.

I have six small humans that depend on me.

I depend on me.

I need me to be heathy.

The rest of this year has been tough in recovery. While my physical health has greatly improved the impact of April 2023 had on my confidence and mental health still plays a major role in my daily life.

Wall of ideas for new year planning
Goal Planning

Planning for 2024, hat do i envision for my Self? I can't Magic a cure for my diabetes so how am I going to improve?

My goals:

  1. Spend 30 minutes per day exercising

  2. Meal plan / prep 75% of all meals

  3. Get my A1c down to 6%

When you are looking at what you want and where you want to be for 2024. Don't forget to include at least one goal for your health. Set one reasonable goal.

Improve your nutrition?

Do you want to improve your A1c?

Decrease your blood pressure? Improve sleep habits?

Believe it or not all of these areas play a role in diabetes management. We will be spending time over the next several weeks.

Improving your health doesn't happen overnight.

Give yourself some grace.

Making time and space to focus on a small area is a great place to start.

Challenge yourself to make one goal dedicated to your health.

Happy New Year Everyone!

All the love,
